Obeth Montellano has been playing guitar for 16 years and is currently performing as session guitarist, sideman, and bandmemder. His father was a conducter, arranger, music teacher, and clarinetist, who could play all musical intruments. The Montellano family have been involved and composed songs for La Guelaguetza festival for hundreds of years in Oaxaca Mexico and currently in L.A. every June. His mother was a dancer for the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico with Amalia Hernandez. Obeth is a self taught guitar player. His first instrument was the Trumpet. The sounds of Paco De Lucia, Jimi Hendrix, Los Panchos, Charlie Hunter, John Mc Laughlin and Jody Fisher, inspired him to pursue the guitar. Obeth Montellano is like a musical chameleon and can blend in any style of music. The styles that he can perform range from Contemporary Jazz, R&B, World Music, Rock, Funk, & Reggae music. The bands that he has played for in the past 11 yrs have opened up for various artist and bands. Such as Inner Circle (Reggae), Taj Mahal (Blues), Jaded (Indie/Funk), Robin Trower (Classic Rock), FourPlay (Jazz/R&B), Incognito (SmoothJazz), Malo (Latin Soul), Gary Hoey, (instrumental Rock) and Los Lonely Boys (Rock).
