Born in 1975 Astma grew up in the west part of divided Berlin. After playing piano for more than 10 years, first musical interest was Punkrock/ NY Hardcore. He played in a Band with lots of shows and a release in 1992. The same year he discovered the upgrowing Berlin underground electronic scene. The Bunker Club was the place to be and it was all about Hardcore & Gabba, but for sure not that happy shit. He started spinning records with the infamous Berlin Gabba Nation and had first gigs in the Bunker 1994 called himself DJ Outrage. He played often in Berlin or across the country, organized the "Fast Forward" events in illegal venues and played alongside scene leading acts like Lenny Dee, Radium, Tieum or E-de Cologne. After some years this music became more and more faster and the sound of hooligans, so the fun got lost. Also influenced by oldschool rap he discovered Drum n Bass in 1997 but after listening to the ones like Chemical brothers, Omar Santana and Freestylers, the new sound called Big Beat and Breaks caught his attention. In the beginning it was the perfect music to slow down on sundays after a 200 BPM rave and smoke weed. Thats only one reason why he chose the name Astma. His Style now is a fusion of Techno/House, Electro, Drum n Bass, HipHop, sometimes even Rock elements and for sure with a lot of breaks and beats. He played lots of Berlin clubs like Maria, Watergate, Tresor, Bunker, Casino, Deep, Subground, Pfefferbank, Stellwerk, Eimer, Festivals like Nature One or Fusion Festival, clubs across the country like OS 25 in FFM, Distille Leipzig, Strasse E Dresden, lots of Polish clubs and boat raves, Fuckparade Trucks, Fritz Loveradio, Fritz Fuckparade Radio, early Castor Demonstrations, Radio shows (Dance under the blue moon, Blackboard Jungle, Rave Satelite, Twen FM ) and many more. He promoted a lot of Electro and Breaks events in Berlin, big and small ones like "Break the Law", "Springbreak", "Doktorspiele"etc. He played together with acts like Adam Freeland, Plump Djs, Rennie Pilgrem, Meat Katie, General Midi, The Freestylers, Crystal Distortion, Hyper, Richard Bartz, Shut up and dance, JDS, Vandal among many others. Right now he is running the monthly event "Reclaim the Beats" @ Cassiopeia Club. |
