About Saxophonist J. Sylvester
Sultry new sounds burst onto the local jazz scene to create a fervor in Houston, TX. The crowd eagerly awaits the sound of the first note. As J. Sylvester raises the mouthpiece to his lips and begins to play, the audience is easily seduced by the tone of his instrument. As his passion just eminates throughout the dimly lit room, a subtle hush fills the air. To experience why J. Sylvester is quickly gaining this kind of respect and recognition throughout the Houston jazz community, make sure you stay up to date with show dates. J. Sylvester moved from Memphis, Tennessee to Houston, Texas to further advance his career as a professional saxophonist. He established a very loyal following at venues such as Isaac Hayes' Restaurant, New Direction's Soul Café, the infamous Beale Street, GoldStrike Casino (Tunica, MS) and Sam's Town Casino(Shreveport, LA). Since his arrival to Houston, J. Sylvester has the honor of performing on stages of Scott Gertner's Skybar, The Red Cat Jazz Café, 57 West and Grooves Restaurant and Lounge. Performing with local legends such as the incomparable Kyle Turner, Dean James, The Joe Carmouche Band, and Melanie Covington with The Werner Richmond Band. View J. Sylvester's EPK Here

I have so many people that have played a very important role in my musical development. Even as I continue to "Evolve" into the man and the musician that God created me to be, I am always humbled by my peers who are walking in their calling. Here are a few individuals who had a role in my development (some know me, alot don't). John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderley, Nat Adderley, Kenny Garrett, Joshua Redman, Grover Washington Jr., Kirk Whalum, Everette Harp, Ron Brown, Gerald Albright, Kim Waters, George Howard, David Sanborn, Marcus Miller, Joe Sample, Bobby Lyle, Alex Bugnon, George Benson, Wayman Tisdale, Norman Brown, George Benson, Chris Vidala, Dr. Vernard Johnson, Lee Reed (Danville), Donald Hayes, Rod Allen (my boy fo' real tho'), Roger "Rock" Williams, Marlon Branch, Karlton "KT" Taylor, James "Jimmy" Kinard, Yvette "Babygirl" Preyer, Jackie McCraven, Herman Green, Sal Crocker, James Sexton, Solomon Hall, and Audiex McDowell. That's just on the jazz and gospel side. The R&B side runs from Chaka Khan to Jill Scott and from Luther Vandross to Anthony Hamilton. I would like to thank these people for sharing their gift to the world so that someone like "lil ole me" could discover mine. Sounds Like: I really don't know the answer to that one.
