NEWS: Zoophyte have just returned from a whirlwind national tour, starting in their hometown of Melbourne at their sold out show at the Evelyn Hotel on May 19 where the band launched Believe, the first single lifted from their new album Another Point of View. Then they packed a van full of musicians, threw in some guitars, a drumkit and a didgeridoo or two and set sail down the proud highway for Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and all points in between, much to the delight of music lovers around Australia. The band was welcomed home by a big and enthusiastic (some would say frenzied, even!) crowd in Melbourne for the official launch of Another Point of View at the Prince of Wales on 20 July, where there was much fine music, merriment and mischief until the wee hours of the morning... ABOUT ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW: Zoophyte's eclectic blend of roots, funk and rock has seen their emergence as one of the most progressive, exciting bands to evolve from Melbourne's burgeoning indie scene. Their latest CD Another Point of View is hands down their best, showcasing the funkin' rockin' sound that audiences all around Australia are growing to love and highlighting Zoophyte's flair for fusing lilting bluesy ballads, funky horn laden toe-tappers and balls-out guitar tracks! Zoophyte is Cam Lee (vox, 6 & 12 string guitar, didge, percussion), James Johnson (guitar), Andrew Gilpin (bass), James Majernik (drums) and occasional guest Andy Lee (vox, trumpet). Another Point of View features 7 shiny new studio tracks and 1 unbelievably groovalicious live track, Money, which was recorded at the magnificent Gershwin Room at St Kilda's Esplanade Hotel. The CD features guest performances by Zoophyte mates including Nicky Bomba, Jaimi Faulkner and Bonjahbango and was produced by friend 'Az' (guitarist of The Offcuts). Another Point of View has been picked up by the Dust Devil Music record label and is distributed by Stomp. It will hit the shelves in all good record stores on 6 August. REVIEWS & UPCOMING AIRPLAY! Believe has already picked up radio airplay on Triple J, Radio Adelaide, PBSFM (CD of the week, no less!), Triple R, FBI, 4ZZZ and FOX FM and FOX is running an interview segment with the band and the new songs which will be syndicated nationally around Australia starting on Sunday 29th of July! Press quotes for Another Point of View and Zoophyte: "Here is a cd that demands to be heard, a cd of rare quality in an age when technology has overtaken talent. Listen once and it will stay in your player and with every listen you will discover more about where Zoophyte want us to be taken. Listen and you too will feel Zoophyte in your soul." Peter Merrit - PBSFM "This cd chose itself for us as nothing beats quality music!" PBSFM "Zoophyte know how to build a song in grandiose bits and parts, using every piece of their rhythm section, horns, guitars, voice and didgeridoo to make a complex swagger of orchestral roots." Beat Magazine "With the buzz rapidly spreading to all stations and industry heavyweights, these super friendly lads could just be the freshest taste on the menu this year" Inpress Magazine "One of the more progressive, exciting bands to emerge from Melbourne's burgeoning indie scene" Herald Sun "The (album) impresses from start to finish" "Zoophyte blairingly stand out from their slew of contemporaries" Time Off "No matter if you're a fan of funk, roots, groove or rock, Zoophyte has it all. The different musical backgrounds of the band's members makes for an eclectic mix of upbeat party tunes and sounds..." Central Coast Express Advocate BIO SECTION: Despite being hard at work on the album, Zoophyte still managed to spend every Thursday in November packing out the top bar at Velduos in Acland St StKilda, they followed up their 2005 appearance at Folk Rhythm & Life with another stellar set in early December and rang in the New Year to an enormous crowd at the Docklands. Recently they have played shows as part of both St Kilda and Brunswick festival, showcased their talents at Adelaide’s Fuse Festival and hit up Apollo Bay Music Festival for the second year running - things have definitely been busy in the Zoophyte camp. It was a frenzied 2005 that launched Zoophyte into the Melbourne scene. In April 2005, Zoophyte’s mini album ‘This Simple Groove’, recorded at Woodstock Studios in November 2004, was launched to a capacity crowd of 700+ in The Gershwin Room at Melbourne’s Esplanade Hotel. The CD was released nationally through MGM and found regular airplay on stations including Triple J,Triple M, RRR and a host of community radio stations throughout the country. The albums opening track ‘Watching Waves’ was included on the Sydney Sun Herald’s ‘Sunday Sounds’ CD, 400,000 copies of which were distributed throughout NSW in June 2005. 2005 saw prolific gigging from the band throughout Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and regional Victoria including capacity headline shows at The Moomba Waterfest, New Years Eve City celebrations at Alexander Gardens, The Daffodil Ball at Melbourne’s Forum theatre and The Prince of Wales. As well as standout shows at The Brunswick Music Festival, Folk Rhythm and Life Festival and Warburton Winter Fest. Zoophyte were invited to play at the Sydney Superdome as part of the AustralAsian Music Buisness Conference and have since been named as one of 20 bands selected for a promotional DVD developed by Austrade to showcase Australian talent throughout the globe. 2006 was just as hectic with the band officially closing the Melbourne Commonwealth Games alongside Killing Heidi at the Last Lap athletes after party, headlining their own show to a packed crowd at The Hifi Bar, selling out of CD's at the Apollo Bay Music Festival, and having their clip 'Watching Waves' featured on RAGE. To top it off, they played a set at Make Poverty History along side some the nation’s best bands. Consisting of Cam Lee (vocals, 6 & 12 string guitar, didge, percussion), James Johnson (guitar), Andrew Gilpin (bass) and James Majernik (drums) and occasional special guest Andy Lee (vocals, trumpet), Zoophyte are currently preparing to tour W.A, Tas, USA, NZ as well as returning to the East Coast of Oz before X-Mas. www.zoophyteband.com Send a request for BELIEVE the first single off Zoophyte's upcoming release by following the links below TRIPLE J SUPER REQUEST TRIPLE J HOME & HOSED NOVA - SMS: 0419 900 100 TRIPLE M - CALL: 1800 150 000 |
