Some may ask why I am speaking out in such a personal manner.I`m a Domestic Vialence Survivor. Domestic violence, or “wife-battering,” as it used to be called, is a taboo subject. Fighting such violence can be especially taboo in traditional societies. The family structure is extremely strong. Many people think that domestic violence is a private family issue and should not be discussed in public. But silence is the batterer’s best friend. Silence allows domestic violence to continue generation after generation. It keeps women from asking for help; it makes women so ashamed of what is happening to them that they believe they are at fault.
