Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor When Curtis Smith walks through the door with a diamond encrusted clipper hanging from his from neck , you may just think he is just another flashy, run of the mill barber,but when you witness his finished product, you know he gave you more than a haircut, he polished an appearance.When asked how he characterized his work, he simply replied " I dont see myself as a barber,I am more of a consultant, I like to improve my clients overall image"At the age of 15, Curtis Smith had the foresight to recognize his talents and capitalize and the heads of his friends.Charging a $1 per cut, this soon-to be-celebrity barber begin to be what would now be a small empire. The self taught progigy never had one day of formal training, Instead he spent years working and perfecting his own style, techniques and trends. By the age of 19, Smith had a full blown career cutting hair, making more in a day than most make in a pay period. During 1994, Smith teamed up with partner and bestfreind DJ Kid Capri to open Eboneese a NYC based barbershop that surmised black culture and male finesse all in one.After a 10-year run Eboneese closed its doors , but as the old saying goes when one door closes the other opens" Curtis Smith became known for his camouflaging technique, precision cutting and tailoring. " I make a personal connection with all my clients with all my clients I suggest ways for thier hair to be better. They trust and believe me and I always deliver". This personal approach is what gave him his professional edge. This professional edge is exactly what celebrity status individuals demand. Smiths first celebrity client was soul crooner Teddy Pendergrass soon after Smiths'reputation began to precede him. Alan Houston, Larry Johnson and Charles Oakley of the NBA's New York Knicks were just some of the upscale clientele that were soon to follow. One day producer extroidinaire Sean Combs was said to be looking for a new barber to cut his hair, after the initial introduction Smith was asked to demonstrate his skills on Bad Boy recording artist .When the finished product was seen , Puffy vowed to never let anyone else cut his hair.That was 10 years ago! To date some of the celebrity hair Smith has cut includes the entire Bad Boy recording artist roster, pop singer Usher, Professional Boxer Roy Jones, Music and television producer and manager to Mariah Carey, Benny Medina and New York Yankees right fielder Gary Sheffield. Curtis artistry is forever documented on the cover of Ushers most recent album "Confessions" in addition to a myriad of music, televison and video shoots Smith served as barber for Sean Johns entire advertising campaign increasing his market value, Smith created his own all natural hair moisturizer aptly titled ' Sweet Jamila. Smith hopes to expand this product into an entire unisex hair care line.A celebrity in his own right, Curtis Smith continues to shape images around the world! Smith has also participated in various hair confrences as an industry speaker and educator. Recently Smith accepted an invitation as a celebrity guest educator to the largest national trade show for the professional beauty industry, Premier Orlando. Smith continues to build a following with his masterful style of cutting hair by accumualting a body of work that can be found in GQ, Vibe, Vanity Fair and The Source.
