About Me |
|
I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6 ! I was born in the summer of 1968 in Brooklyn, NY and was introduced to music at a very early age by my father who listened to just about everything. After being sent to Santo Domingo at the age 4, I lived with an aunt whose kids ( my cousins) studied in the conservatory. There were instruments in the house, and choir in church. My father kept sending me records, everything from Sesame Street to Motown, the Osmonds, etc. He even sent me as a gift a Wurlitzer organ ( with the letter keys) and a drum kit. I had always wanted to be a drummer. I returned to NYC in 1976. In school I wanted to study piano, but one thing led to another and I never did at that time. But I met my future bandmates from Broom Hellda, Laz, Ric, and Roland. I returned to Santo Domingo in 1980 and did one year in an Adventist school. There I saw a kid playing guitar who was a grade above me, and decided that I wanted to learn. When I returned to NYC in 1981, I met some friends on my block who introduced me to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. That coupled with some recent adquisitions by my father (Led Zeppelin, Pat Benatar) made me want to pick up the guitar in a definitive way. It was through my music teacher in Good Shepherd School in NY, that I found my guitar teacher, and I started to take lessons. One thing led to another. After playing in a couple of bands in NYC in the 80's and recording a demo with one of them ( Broom Hellda), I moved to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Started writing tunes and formed the band Toque Profundo in 1989 with cousin Max Gomez, and friends Tony Almont, Lorenzo Zayas and Osvaldo Peña. After 2 years in TP, I left in 1991 and formed JLS + Cousin Max, which at first experimented with all sorts of styles, including instrumental and acoustic tunes. In 1993 the band officially became a hard rock power trio and changed it's name to just JLS ( Jodio Loco Sucio, but JLS are actually the initials of my full name) JLS released 4 albums including a live tape from 1993 to 2005. All the band's music can be found at the website www.jodiolocosucio.com . Along with business partner Allan Leschhorn, I formed Estudio 828 in 2002 in Santo Dominigo, an upstart production company and experimented with various solo projects, taking the role of co-producer for other projects like myspace.com/luichyguzman and myspace.com/pankyylosmanolos . The songs available here, web exclusives, form part of my recent solo work, until now only available through the estudio828.com website. The songs reflect recent changes in my life, views of frustration, death, and perseverance. Playing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah in Madrid's Rincon del Arte Nuevo May 21, 2007 |

Music:Member Since: 5/18/2006Band Website: estudio828.com Band Members: Influences: I was very influenced by the music of many artists and many bands, and still am. Thankfully. The list is as varied as my music collection. The very first record I ever owned was "The Breaks" by Kurtis Blow. My first hard rock albums were "Screaming for Vengeance" by Judas Priest, "Mob Rules" by Black Sabbath and "For Those About To Rock" by AC/DC. Before that, which was around 1981/82, I was an avid listener of Top 40 Am RAdio (WNBC, before it was talk). So much music has touched my life at one time or another and led me in different directions. The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Juan Luis Guerra, Motown, Metallica, Billy Joel, Andres Calamaro, Camilo Sesto, Judas Priest, Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanes,... in the late 80's before forming Toque Profundo, I was very influenced by spanish artists being played on the radio in Santo Domingo, like Los Inhumanos, Los Toreros Muertos, Mecano, Joaquin Sabina and these in turn made write in spanish. At the same time I was heavily into the work of a Dominican writer named Huchi Lora through the recording of his lyrics by the great merenguero Johnny Ventura. It's all there somewhere, Milly y Los Vecinos, Julio Iglesias, ABBA, The Carpenters... I guess it's the advantage of growing up between NYC and Santo Domingo. Right now my ipod has Tom Waits, System of a Down, Gustavo Cerati, Vicentico, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Soziedad Alkoholika,... Sounds Like: YA disponibles en YOUTUBE videos clasicos de JLS en vivo, Patra 3 Ruinas de San Francisco, grabados el viernes 13 de feb,1998 La Onda Fatal Dame Tu Sexo Me Da La Gana J.L.S.
