Since moving to NC from NJ, I have just wanted to get a %$..@'n band in gear, but all seems pretty sh*tty so far with Music Forums of this area, there's no great places to go and push the talent... ... so I decided to come to one the best places I know well, through web promotions. ... Who the %$@ is Michael J. L you might ask... ... Duh, it's me. ... Born, Raised-Lived in New Jersey for about 96% of my life, just being a annoying little %$..@ to people I've known or still know till this date. Friends arrived in life and then some left or I walked away. but one thing that I strongly feel the urge of keeping a connection with is; Singing/Screaming/Songwriting This somewhat decent talent of mine, is something I will never want to give up doing in my life... ... I used to be at a point where I couldn't hold a note any longer than a 2 second handjob from some skank but, I had the powerful voice/stage presence/personality to outdo that part. ... I started my thrill of being in bands in the year 1988 with a band called Eclipse in Union, NJ, I wasn't much of anything then at all of a vocalist and I was really nervous to sing in front of people, except for being at band practices (still it was a thrill). My voice was really weak (which I get embarrassed by hearing my own old recordings), but they're always cool to look back on. ... & through the wonders of recordings, you can hear some of my highlights throughout the years. The really bad vocals up to the stronger/powerful style of my own, they are here for you to check out. ... As said, at the start of my singing/screaming part of life, I was a bit nervous in front of people, but all of that changed on November 10th 1990... ... While going to see a friends' band Flatus (from NJ), their singer announced that a friend of theirs was going to sing their next song... ... How the hell could their friend say NO, I'm Too Shy, in front of about 150 to 200 people? For the first time ever, I got up onto a stage and went for broke, with no worries at all... BELOW IS FOOTAGE TAKEN OF THE CROWD THAT NIGHT they were all so excited for me ... Next thing I knew was, I was telling myself that I need a %$@'n band of my own! Soooooo, November 10th 1990 was the date that changed my world and made me forget the life of stagefright, but there was a band before-hand that had to deal with the Lame 'Ol Little Me... ... It was around 1988 that I worked in Union, New Jersey on the GSP with Lee Potcher (who you can find in my friend listing here at Myspace, under the name; Potch), ... Well anyways, in/around 1988 we we're in a 4 piece band named Eclipse. ... The band played about 95% cover songs, from Zeppelin, Cream, The Who, Deep Purple (thrown in were maybe 3-4 originals). ... We would practice (or I would at least try), but I was the only person who wasn't comfortable with singing in front of people yet (so I guess that was what held us back a bit). ... I would shy away in corners of the studio when people were around and I just wouldn't want to sing... we did actually end up playing 1 show for a graduation party at a local hotel from where we lived, (yeah I sucked, it's 2006 now and I still listen to the recording and I cringe when hearing it). ... I believe it was just after or maybe (way before this show and only show) that I was thought of being canned from the band, but you know what; it was higly understandable... I told you before I couldn't hold a note for %$@ ... The band Eclipse changed their name a few times afterwards (I guess to shake their scent out of my nose of trying to find them again in the future), nah, they weren't that bad of guys... Trust Me, we had a good time back then. ... Eclipse now goes by the name Overtime and plays the Union, New Jersey and surroundling areas constantly (I am pretty happy to know that they still have the spirit).
