About Me |
| Philosopher, artist, writer, composer, scientist and student of life! There's more at www.michaelarmenia.com - music, art, writing samples, etc. (albeit quite old). |
My Interests |
| Spiritual growth, physical health, music, art, literature, photography, film, hiking, camping, cooking and, oh, so much more! Now for those who want more...I would start with metaphysics, meditation, Reiki, T'ai Chi, incense, an indoor garden of candles, natural organic whole foods, botany, plant medicinals, naturopathy, acupuncture...Brunello di Montalcino, goat cheese, thunderstorms, complexity/chaos, spontaneously adding random, free-associating lyrics to common melodies aloud, often at the risk of embarrassment...et cetera. |
I'd like to meet:If I had a time machine......Lao Tzu, Buddha, Joshua (the mythical Bethlehem-born Nazarene of Galilee, a sage, a prophet, etc. - it would put a lot of modern-age strife on this globe to rest once and for all!) Muhammed, Helena Blavatsky, Ouspensky, Gurdjieff, Albert Einstein, Alan Watts, Richard Feynman among others. On MySpace...Kindred Spirits. |
Music:Willow, Imogen Heap, Tori Amos, Loreena McKennitt, Evanescence, Bjork, Ivy, Delirium, Kristy Thirsk, Mediaeval Baebes, Julee Cruise, Julia Fordham, EBTG, Portishead, David Sylvian, Japan, The Smiths, The Cure, Icicle Works, The Dream Academy, Psychadelic Furs, OMD, Naked Eyes, Icehouse, Thompsin Twins, XTC, Kate Bush, New Order, Depeche Mode, Ultravox, Erasure, Bruce Cockburn, Jane Siberry, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Lisa Gerrard, Bel Canto, Peter Murphy, Shellyan Orphan, Howard Jones, Leo Kottke, Wim Mertens, Enya, Suzanne Ciani, Mary Lydia Ryan, Andy Summers, Kevin Wood, Jean-Michel Jarre, Klaus Schultz, Vangelis, Tchaikovsky, Faure, Satie, Debussy, Ravel, Michael Nyman, Diana Krall, Elvis Costello, Barbra Streisand, and...There's more to come...too many influences in the last 40 years (OK, 30 cognizant years!)for me to recant in a moment's notice. Oh, yeah, and check out Evelyn Glennie live anywhere...she's a fabulous percussionist to see and hear. (It's interesting to note that the most profound live music performances I've attended were Evelyn's shows because of the splendid visual energy as much as the music which was beautiful in its own right. What's even more interesting for those of you unfamiliar with this world-class artist, she has been deaf since the age of 12. Flight of the Bumblebee on the marimba...I'm just saying!!!) |
Movies:Almost anything directed by Orson Welles, Peter Greenaway, Woody Allen, Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam or the Coen brothers. Some movies of the top of my head - in no particular order: The Trial (Orson Welles), Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Blade Runner, Dark City, Cube, A Clockwork Orange, Dead Poet Society, Pi, "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover", American Beauty, A Beautiful Mind, American President, Groundhog Day, Mr.Holland's Opus, Gray's Anatomy, Swimming to Cambodia, The Hudsucker Proxy, Shawshank Redemption, Unbreakable, The Village, Barton Fink, Naked Lunch, eXistenz, O Brother Where Art Thou, Amelie, Titus, Shadowlands, The Elephant Man, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Being John Malkovitch, Adaptation, About Schmidt, Fargo, Dancer in The Dark, Big Fish, The Vanishing (original European release), Mirrormask...I'll add more as they come to mind! |
Television:There are just too many books to read to watch TV. But, my DVD faves are M*A*S*H, Seinfeld, The Family Guy, American Dad, Frasier, Friends, Star Trek TNG, and others... I really haven't watched TV that wasn't TIVOed in several years. If I did sit down to watch, it would be The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, CNN and Fox News and any network that might carry Dennis Miller. |

Crohn's and overtones: a music lesson, a good book, and an awesome piano. |

Benjamin Disreali, exquisite lithographs and Peter Griffin? |

What I'm thinking tonight... |
| For a good friend... Life has a flow, a rhythm, a way. The flow is a creative and destructive dance. Euphoria and pain are byproducts of the dance. Struggling is the experience of opposing that flow... Posted by Michael on Tue, 01 May 2007 12:13:00 PST |
