About Me |
|
| I, Bill McHenry, was born in Maine in 1972. Since 1992 I lived mostly in Brooklyn, NY and a couple times in Barcelona, Spain. There are 5 Bill McHenry CDs - REST STOP(1997) GRAPHIC(1998) FEATURING PAUL MOTIAN (2002) SONIC PRESSURE (2006) and ROSES (2007). Also JAZZ IS WHERE YOU FIND IT (1997)co-led with Ben Waltzer and LIVE AT SMALLS(2000) w Ethan Iverson. As a sideman I also recorded with REID ANDERSON, REBECCA MARTIN, GUILLERMO KLEIN, CHRIS LIGHTCAP, JOE SMITH, NORAH JONES and BEN WALTZER. I play every Sunday when I'm in town at Biscuit BBQ in Brooklyn with JOHN McNEIL. I've also played with HENRY GRIMES, ANDREW CYRILLE, CHARLIE HADEN, JOHN ABERCROMBIE. I play standards quartet with ETHAN IVERSON and BEN STREET. JAMIE SAFT MIKE PRIDE and I have a band called WHOOPIE PIE. I learned music from my mother and my first saxophone teacher was David Demsey. I spent 4 years at Interlochen Arts Academy and 10 months at New England Conservatory before getting smart. I took two very good lessons from DEWEY REDMAN on how to play long tones- (hint- practice!) Some people study with me for about 3 lessons then I never hear from them again. Those are the good ones. The bad ones take one lesson. How can you learn in one lesson? It takes three. Myspace is for genius. | |
