About Me |
| I was born and raised in a sort of sect called Camphill. Partly in Pennsylvania, partly in upstate New York. Ever seen the movie "The Village" by M Night Shyamalan? That was filmed 20 minutes away from where I grew up, and the village depicted is similar in many ways, but we did have electricity, cars, telephones. If you go to my homepage www.robertsmith-hald.com you can read more about it there. I’m a singer song-writer, always have been. Growing up, we were only allowed classical music, not that I minded very much, I loved it, and still do. But the music I loved the most, pop, rock, country, folk, that was was seen as the devils work in the sect, so I made it in my head, kept it to myself. Years later, I finally managed to get my parents to buy me a guitar. I was 16, and we had left the sect. They were still pretty into it though, so it had to be a classical guitar. I still have it, it was a peice of shit made in east germany. They got our music teacher neighbor to teach me some chords, with strict instructions to only teach me chords that I could use in classical style music. The first two chords he showed me were Am and Em, also showing me how to make them into major chords, which I shouldn’t use, because that was for rock, pop, and folk. Of course, I only used the major chords. My first pop music experience was Elvis (read more about that on my webpage) and after that The Beatles. My sister went to a boarding school, and she came back with records. She had to hide them so they wuldn’t get chucked out. A lot of them did, but Sgt Pepper survived, and that was my first Beatles experience. Listening to that record, keeping watch for them so they wouldn’t get hold of it and destroy it. I wrote my first song with that guitar, and have never stopped writing. It’s what I do. I write constantly. I live and breathe songwriting and music. Its what I love to do, my passion. My Interests |
Music:Member Since: 6/24/2006Band Website: robertsmith-hald.com Band Members: I write the songs, sing lead vocal, play acoustic guitar and harmonica. Most of the members of my backing band come from a tiny little place called Fusa. It's not too far from Bergen as the crow flies, but what with the state of the roads and all the fjords going ths way and that, it's still a ways out in the boonies. Beautiful place though, and there must be something in the water there, because everyone I meet from there is a musician, and a good one too. My drummer is Tom Riise (also Babe Rawlins), my bass player Ole Gunnar Eikeland (Babe Rawlins), and on electric guitars Ole Rasmus Hjelle (Cederberg) and Vegard Henanger. Vegard also plays mandolin, and lap steel. Kjetil André Tofte (Tuco's Lounge) just arrived in a limo, with a bunch of keys in his palms. Musicians credited on the tunes on this site, picked from the forthcoming album "Innocence Said": Ole Rasmus Hjelle:guitars, background vocals Vegard Henanger:lapsteel, guitars, mandolin, dobro Ole G Eikeland:el.&upright bass, background vocals Stig "Pluto" Wålberg:drums Kim Gulbrandsen:div.keys Helge Haugland:drums and el. & upright bass on Little River Eirik Grønner: producer, background vocals Yngve Moe: el.bass on Your time has passed Influences: I’m influenced by a lot of folk and bluegrass music, and classical music, especially Mozart. I like a lot of different kinds of music, from AC DC, Elvis, David Bowie, Sex Pistols, to Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, John Lennon, Fleetwood Mac (young and old) U2, Daniel Lanois, Emmylou Harris, Mark Knopfler, Bruce Springsteen, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, a lot of that kind of music. I really don’t know who influences me, I just write music, pure and simple. I love to write songs. Sounds Like: People say I sound like a mixture of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. I don't know really, it's hard to be objective, and even harder still to put a label on myself. Every fiber in my body screams out at the thought. I never try to sound like anybody else but myself. I do my own thing. Write the songs I like, and sing 'em how I like. Being compared to Dylan and The Boss is daunting, but flattering. Yet, how can I complain? I do not. Type of Label: None |
