| El.butler
El. Butler the Person.El. Butler grew up in Cooper Park Projects in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. Growing up the son of a preacher El Butler knew immediately that God retain a stronghold over his life. El. Butler immediately was propelled to a second love that would ultimately seal his fate music. Ever since El. Butler was a child he was destined to pursue a career in music. At the age of four, El. played the drums for his church. At the age of 12 in a school talent show, El. Butler discovered that he had a talent for rapping when he wowed the audience with his tenacious and sanctified lyrics. Little did he know that he would take his love for hip-hop and God and forge these energies to create a new genre in hip-hop music. El. Butler is married with three children and is currently the full time pastor of Christian Community Baptist Church located in Brooklyn.El. Butler the MCBefore accepting the call to preach the gospel, El was an aspiring rap artist with lyrics that represented the streets. At that time his style was heavily influenced by artists such as LL Cool J., Rakim and Big Daddy Kane. However it was not the will of God for El to be a secular rap artist. This became evident when he was given the opportunity to display his skills in the presence Rakim. As some of Els peers watched in excitement for what was about to take place, the young aspiring emcee suddenly was unable to utter a word. When El got home that night, and in his prayers he asked God; why was he not allowed to recite his rhymes to Rakim, and the Lord answered in the language of a vision. In this vision he stares at the wall of his bedroom, he saw a funeral service, as he approached the casket he also heard the voice of the preacher, not sure of the individual funeral he was attending, El viewed the body, only to see that it was his body in the casket, surround by awards and gold album plaques. In the vision he was also preaching at his services and immediately God said you take your pick. At age 17 El started preaching the gospel. Still with a love for music, he then began to produce and write music for other artists. It then led him to experiment with his lyrical skills. After not picking up a mic for 11 years the first song he recorded was," Check Yo Self," and the rest is history.StreetChurch the albumOriginally the name of the album was Release the Gift, this title was to restricting, because it excluded people outside of the church, and El believed that was not what God wanted, the main target is that people can understand and relate to what he is saying. El was compelled to change the name of the album to StreetChurch, because that is where church really needs to take place. El believes you are only going to win souls if you go out and get them. The lyrics in the song The Truth is Here, says todays service will be held on the corner, and after church were gonna have chips and quarter waters, leave your burdens at the alter. This album StreetChurch El. Butler desires to tantalize his audience with smooth lyrics designed to make his listeners reflect on his words. As a pastor and a man of God, El. Butlers vision is to reach souls through this gift of rap evangelism. He believes that with the help of God, this will create a different and unique sound in the culture of Hip Hop. ELs music cannot simply be categorized as Gospel Rap. His music is so compelling that it will stimulate the religious as well as the secular and at the same time God will get all the glory ; the honor, and the praise.
