This is to provide action information and generate a space to organize around. In summary, this is a community farm that has been in action for 14 years with 350 families farming the land in the middle of South Central Los Angeles. This place is a source of subsistence farming to help the community meet their nutritional and health needs. In addition it has become a place where not only plants are cultivated but culture, community, and safety have been some of the added benefits which have flourished from this oasis. The land used for this farm was sold in 2003 to a private developer who now wishes to put a warehouse in place of the farm. As a result he has taken the harsh action of evicting the farmers from the land. The current issue is a lot more complicated than this, which is why I recommend for a more detailed account of the situation you may refer to the wealth of literature collected and made available on the above websites from various news sources. The mainstream news is not fully covering the story so please take time to visit these sites, even if you feel you know all there is to know about the farm. With all that being said the: International Weekend of Solidarity Friday July 7th to Monday July 10th. was a wonderful and enlightening event! The Farmers are still gathering and organizing information to be made available soon regarding the next level of work to be done. Contact all the people within your circle of friends and associates and ask them to participate in the upcoming demonstrations as a South Central Farmer Supporter! Pass the word on and encourage people to plan ahead by making time available for themselves to join in and participate...We will be..Visiting local farmers markets and spreading the word.. ..*to marching with signs in key public spots (TBA).. ..*hold your own Candlelight Vigils to raise awareness about the South Central Farm... GET IN WHERE YOU FIT IN! Please join the national actions to defend the rights of the farmers so they may continue to live and farm with dignity, while producing a healthier/safer community. PLEASE ORGANIZE YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS, COWORKERS, AND ORGANIZATIONS. ALWAYS, ALWAYS REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR ACTIONS SAFE, POSITIVE, AND FAMILY FRIENDLY!
