| Le Mecap nascono a Ferrara nel 1995 dalle ceneri degli Shabtys, gruppo
attivo nella scena indie ferrarese dal 1989.
Gianni Orsini (voce), Massimiliano Rea (chitarra), Ciro Petrarulo (basso),
Nicola Sisti (batteria) - con l'aggiunta di Giacomo Esposito (chitarra, ex
Blackboard Jungle), entrato nel gruppo nel 1997 a sostituire il precedente
chitarrista Daniele Poole - sono passati nel corso degli anni da un
psycho-folk-rock (stile R.E.M.) con testi in inglese ad un rock più energico
in cui le canzoni (a firma Esposito-Rea) sono interamente in italiano. Il loro album d'esordio, "In orbita", è stato recentemente ristampato da Crotalo Records ( www.crotalo.com/lemecap.htm ) in contemporanea con l'approdo delle Mecap su My Space. La band è già da tempo al lavoro sul secondo disco, di cui potete sentire in anteprima il singolo "Superpoteri". Nella loro carriera decennale, le Mecap hanno partecipato ad alcune trasmissioni televisive RAI e Mediaset e si sono
fatti conoscere nei confini nazionali attraverso un'intensa attivitÃ
concertistica, nella quale alternano brani propri e cover. Il nome Le Mecap è un omaggio a una marca di scarpe da tennis degli anni 70 pubblicizzata, tra gli altri, dal compianto Gilles Villeneuve.
I componenti della band hanno inoltre una serie di progetti paralleli all'attività delle Mecap: Nicola Sisti è anche il batterista dei Deh! mentre Max Rea e Giacomo Esposito fanno parte degli Elettromoka (Cd Single: "Rinnamorerò", 2001, Sony Music); Giacomo collabora inoltre con diversi artisti della musica italiana, da Saverio Grandi (già con Vasco Rossi) a Senit, fino ad essere co-autore di alcune canzoni degli Stadio. |
