1967. Vancouver. Fresh out of high school, Sam Feldman decided to pursue his greatest passion, rock 'n roll. His life-long obsession was fuelled by hearing and seeing The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin and the Ike & Tina Turner Review. He began promoting concerts and dances in and around Vancouver, not to mention working as a doorman and, ultimately, talent booker for a popular, early '70s nightclub. He went on to open his own talent agency, and began managing several young B.C. rock bands. Feldman was soon doing business with Bruce Allen, a talent manager and one of a small handful of business people excited about the possibilities for an emerging West Coast music scene. Recognizing the need to find and create steady live work for local musicians, Feldman and Allen launched A&F Music in 1971 as a combined management firm and booking agency focusing on Western Canada. Allen specialized in management while Feldman built the booking agency division, S.L. Feldman & Associates, which provided steady pay cheques and regular touring opportunities to young, mid-level and established artists alike. Bachman Turner Overdrive, Trooper, Doug & the Slugs, Bryan Adams, Loverboy, Chilliwack, Prism, Powder Blues and the Headpins, were foremost among the hundreds of recording artists represented by the Feldman agency in its first decade. With an artist roster that evolves with the shifting tides of popular taste, the Feldman Agency continues to represent leading Canadian stars and a new wave of homegrown talent.
