About Me

STYMIE 1992-1995: Stymie started as a regular five piece band in Feb. 1992. They played a handful of shows opening for the likes of Flop and an early incarnation of the Presidents of the United States of America called Go. They recorded a demo and were featured on a 7" comp. called Things That Are Heavy. They were then joined by a second bassist. For a period they actually played with two bassists and two guitarists, but eventually switched over to three guitars and one bass after recording their second demo. Their second demo resulted in the three song Grocery Bag 7".Thirsty Ear Records out of New York got excited about Stymie and the band convinced the label to pay for the next demo. Thirsty Ear opted not to sign Stymie, but full rights to the recording were returned to the band. One of those songs ended up on C/Z's Teriyaki Asthma vol. IX 7" comp. and one appeared on a split single with Control Freak that was distributed in a Japanese fanzine called Fringe!. The band slogged on and recorded its fourth--and best--demo. One song appeared on a split single (along with a tune from their first demo) with Lab Rat that was limited to a pressing of 200 copies. Each record featured a different cover made from police photos of automobile accident scenes. The band eventually added a percussionist and broke up in Nov. 1994 after playing its final show opening for Ace Frehley.Stymie reunited in January 1995 to record two more songs and eventually released their Debut Posthumous single. That's pretty much it, dude.
