About Me |
|
| New Orleans is of vital importance to AmericaIts inhabitants rich tapestries, their histories surely, and their culture-from food to literature. But, until the tragedy of Katrina, its been through the music of that parish that we best know New Orleans. Our mission then: to best support and spotlight the working artists, musicians and creative leaders of New Orleans whose material and economic home base has been ravaged by the hurricanes; raging waters that never cease to threaten the levees, even now.We intend to inspire and call to action local music communities who have long been touched by the heritage of NOLA and to support our brothers and sisters with a helping hand, not a hand out.We seek to promote the direct relationship of the consumption of their combined creative expressions as a pillar of economic recovery in New Orleans and look forward to its positive influence on the Philly music scene. In return, we ask of these individuals that theyEnrich our ears Influence our artists Accept our love.. width="425" height="350" .. | |

Music:Member Since: 7/15/2006Band Website: phillytoneworleans.org Band Members: Influences: Philly to New Orleans: - books ongoing benefits raising money to send local artists and musicians to volunteer with Hands on New Orleans where they will be working to rebuild homes for displaced musicians, restore music venues and work on other necessary post Katrina projects in the city. (The first Philly to New Orleans team of volunteers arrived in NOLA Sept 27, 2006) These shows have been held exclusively at World Cafe Live but will expand to include other venues sometime after November 2006. -plans itineraries for the volunteers at night to hear, meet and often times play shows with great NOLA artists. -Works to support and encourage tourism to return to New Orleans at all our events by distributing flyers and tourist booklets, showing promotional marketing videos, raffling off trips, and booking a monthly series called Big Easy Sunday featuring bands, food and the spirit of New Orleans. -Adopted the Warren Easton High School marching band and is actively raising funds to replace their instruments and uniforms by Mardi Gras. We hope this will soon spread to other cities creating an ongoing influx of national musicians to New Orleans working to preserve our musical heritage and returning home musically and spiritually recharged. Our goal is to go down there and take care of our own. For arts sake. Future projects: -raising funds and materials for the specific projects we will be working on. -provide a house backline for the Hands on New Orleans headquarters and have our musicians perform for the staff and resident volunteers when we are in town. -produce a Philly to New Orleans CD compilation including songs by local artists written about New Orleans and the storm... width="425" height="350" ..
