About Me |
|
| Born in Rocky Mount, Virginia, the moonshine capital of the world, Russ began singing at 3 or 4 years old. His favorite uncle H.C., who had a four piece bluegrass/country band, took notice of this and as soon as Russ' hands got big enough to reach around the neck of his 1957 Gibson SJ-45(about 8 years old) he taught Russ to play "The Ballad of Tom Dooley", "Wildwood Flower" and all the major chords. He was amazed at how quickly he learned. At 12 years old Russ lost his beloved uncle in a tragic car accident and layed the guitar down.
At fifteen his first girlfriend, Debbie(now his wife) convinced him to start singing in church. While trying to attend college the songwriting bug bit him and that was IT. He knew what he had to do. After several trips to Nashville they sold their house, loaded a Ryder truck and they were Music City bound.
Since the move Russ has done TV and radio shows and performed with many artisits like Charlie Daniels, Tanya Tucker, The Judds and legends like Tom T. Hall, Sheb Wooley, Bob Hope and B.J Thomas. He's sang commercials and one of his songs, "Same Ol' Feelin' Feelin'" was featured in the movie "Varsity Blues". Opry star Jack Greene recorded one of his songs. Also, some of Russ' collaborations with country legend Ed Bruce has been recorded on Ed's last two gospel Cds. You can hear them at www.edbrucemusic.com.
Russ is currently writing songs for a new country CD, a new Gospel CD, a special market CD, and a new movie, "4th and Goal" which will be filmed in Texas. Russ still finds time to perform frequently around Nashville when he's not traveling. He performs songs from his "Live" gospel CD at Nashville Cowboy Church, Smokey Mountain Cowboy Church and other places of worship. And on top of all this he is enjoying playing in his studio! WHEW!
Hobbies...Classic muscle cars(Mopars only!), collecting guitars, and working in wood.
Favorite things to do...Bible Study Fellowship, hang out at home with my wife and dogs, and of course going to the beach.
Russ says, "Music is a wonderful gift from God and I'm thankful that I can participate in that gift in any way, shape, or form."
