mildenburg 11 at soulseduction.com and also our mariposa video at youtube: mariposa video the merry poppins is first and foremost a live band, fusing skankin’ urban roots reggae, soul, dub, jazz and ‘popolka’ into hypnotic and danceable grooves. The original compositions reach from quiet ballades to highly danceable offbeat and also the lyrics cover a wide range: From loosely affixed word installations, snap-shots, and dreamscapes to freaky musical interpretations of Rudyard Kipling’s thoughts in tracks such as ‘she’ and ‘sahara.’ The empathetic lyrics touch the audience and at the same time, the band succeeds in catering for the listeners’ musical desires with jazzy and rocky tunes. Many of the rhythms and melodies that the merry poppins play appear to sound familiar - however, the songs smoothly develop into self-contained ear candies. And there’s no chance for not havin’ a boogie! Ever since their 2004 live-debut at the ‘Jazzit’ Club in Salzburg, the merry poppins have rapidly turned from an insider tip, rockin’ the party-cellars of the city, into a hot stage act. In December 2005, the band performed to a crowded house at Vienna’s VEKKS. Since then, they have played a high bandwidth of venues: from posh Bavarian castle to local honky-tonks, and clubs such as the Eremitage Tirol, Loft Salzburg, or the new ARGE. The New Year’s Party 2005/6, celebrated at ARGE Nonntal/Salzburg was followed by their first tour abroad: the merry poppins rocked Eastern Germany in April 2006. During the following summer, the band turned Mildenburg 11’s skanky living room into a full-on studio. Mildenburg 11 is the home-base of the band, where the cats jam, party, rehearse,… - basically live. The building, which has become a notorious hang-out of numerous new bands and other creative spirits, is to be torn down by the mid of this year. The 15 tracks and 2 remixes of the band’s debut album capture the spirit of the place and its residents and - being joined by the ‘mildenbirds orchestra’ - the merry poppins’ album pays tribute to their home-base. booking & info: tmp-booking@gmx.at |
