| United States Champion; wrestled in the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 22.Signature Move: The DominatorOriginally scheduled to face Finlay and William Regal in a Triple Threat Match for the United States Championship, Lashley was rendered unable to compete at The Great American Bash by SmackDown GM Theodore Long.The focused, driven Lashley has always been clear about his ultimate goal. He’s wrestled his entire life, all with the purpose of one day becoming a WWE Superstar. He’s a three-time wrestling national champion and a four-time wrestling All-American. He’s also a two-time Armed Forces Champion and took home the silver medal in the 2002 CISM World Championships — competing against the best of the rest of the world’s military.Yet, for Lashley, all that was a precursor to training for his WWE career. This mixed martial arts expert is already a renowned champion at the amateur level, and now Lashley has begun his climb toward WWE stardom.Lashley entered WWE late in 2005, and did it in impressive fashion. His first match in WWE was with fitness guru, Simon Dean. Lashley manhandled Simon, garnering the attention of everyone in the building with his devestating finisher, the Dominator. Thoroughly embarrased by his poor showing, Dean challenged Lashley to a match at No Mercy where the loser would have to eat 20 cheeseburgers. The result at No Mercy was the same as it had been weeks earlier, as Lashley once again defeated Simon in under 2 minutes. Lashley made sure Simon lived up to the stipulation, shoving the first of 20 burgers down Simon's throat.By the time Survivor Series rolled around, Lashley was on fire. The undefeated rookie earned a spot in the 5-on-5 interpromotional match representing the SmackDown brand. Lashley continued to impress, helping lead SmackDown to a huge victory.Early in 2006, Lashley was still undefeated and dominating his opponents. On a February edition of SmackDown, Lashley scored a controversial victory over JBL. The 'Wrestling God' was distracted by the Boogeyman, and Lashley took advantage of the situation to get the upper hand and defeat JBL. At No Way Out, Lashley was determined to prove that the SmackDown victory was no fluke. Unfortunately, outside interference from Finlay allowed JBL to hit the Clothesline from Hell and end Lashley's undefeated streak.Lashley brawled with Finlay throughout the month leading up to WrestleMania 22 and both Superstars landed a spot in the 6-man Money in the Bank ladder match. WrestleMania 22 was Lashley's first time at the big dance, and while he didn't come out victorious, it was clear that this rising star would be a force for many years to come.After WrestleMania, Lashley turned his attention towards the King of the Ring Tournament on SmackDown. Judgment Day could have easily been the biggest day of Lashley's career. But, thanks to Finlay and Booker T, the night turned into his most frustrating. Facing off against Booker in the King of the Ring finals, Lashley looked to be in control, closing in on the crown while launching himself into the WWE stratosphere. Unfortunately for Lashley, Finlay took it upon himself to interfere in the contest, hitting the newcomer with the shillelagh, allowing Booker T to take advantage and win the match.But Lashley bounced back strong just five nights later on SmackDown. The hard-hitting, soft-spoken Lashley had a golden opportunity, literally, when he faced JBL for the United States Championship on SmackDown. Lashley's immense power was too much for JBL to overcome. Lashley was able to cash in on his first-ever championship opportunity to become the new United States Champion. | |
