About Me

When the members of the South Florida power groove four-piece Fall of Olympus first descended on their practice space, the idea was to generate something so brutal it would decimate even the Greek gods. What they ended up with was full-blown chaos with solos and some speed metal shredding.
Hell-bent on creating the music they want to hear but can’t seem to find in anyone’s collection, Fall Of Olympus mixes elements of thrash, tough guy hardcore and a dash of death metal here and there to create a sound so assaulting, it actually commands you to get on your feet and bang back. Forget playing for babes or success. These guys are looking to sonically kick your fucking ass.
“We try to write songs that are fast and heavy, but people can still move to,” says guitarist and primary songwriter Jason Nugent. “Hence the name ‘power groove.’” It’s a term Pantera front man Phil Anselmo once used to describe the early days of his late band – a form of metal that can be both extreme and yet danceable.
Since its inception in January 2006, Fall Of Olympus has managed to mow over a few milestones, namely self recording a demo in Summer 2006 and building a modest local following. From the first show in West Palm Beach, soon-to-be fans were blown away by Fall Of Olympus’ tight configuration. “We’re apparently so tight that no one believed our first show was our first show…or that a four-piece could sound like this,” muses Nugent. “Plus we apparently have a killer groove to our shit..”
Indeed, combine the groove metal of Pantera, the metal-infused East Coast hardcore of Hatebreed and the straight-up post-thrash of Machine Head, and you’re almost there. Ken Hays’ coarse, grinding vocals put to Nugent’s driving guitar with an onslaught from a break-neck rhythm section, makes for a mix of thrash and hardcore that would make the 1990s proud.
As for individual members Chris Davis, Jason Nugent, John Wurm and Ken Hays, the guys are no strangers to the South Florida metal scene. Each cut his teeth in bands dating back to high school. Ex-projects include The Scrudevice, Sunday Mourning Mass, Seven Rooms and Kana.
With diverse beginnings and influences, the band keeps its tunes varied as well. Songs like “Rise To Legend” will keep the crowd stomping, while “The New Satan” feels darker and more pained. “We like to mix it up a bit,” says bassist Chris Davis. “Take the audience to different places. We always strive to keep the energy though. Energy is our main tenet.”
